Finding spilled paint on your new carpet doesn’t have to be a disaster. At CMA Flooring in Carrollton, we understand that you want to keep your new floors blemish-free, which is why our flooring experts have compiled these tips for removing water-based paint from carpet.
If the paint is still wet on your new Frieze carpet, you may be able to avoid staining if you act quickly and follow these four steps. First, before attempting to remove the paint, locate a clean white towel, which won’t leak dye onto your carpet and aggravate the problem. Second, using the white towel, blot the stain until you can’t remove any more paint. Be careful to avoid rubbing the area, which can embed the color deeper into your carpet. Third, using a second white towel, dap a mixture of hot water and mild dish soap onto the stain. Saturate the discolored area and continue blotting with a dry end of the towel. Fourth, once the stain seems to have faded, let the carpet dry and then vacuum. If the stain fails to come out, repeat these steps as needed.
For dried paint, you may have more difficulty removing the stain, but this # step process may help. First, as with the wet paint removal process, locate a clean white towel. Second, create a hot water and mild detergent solution and use the towel to apply the mixture to the stain and let sit for 3-5 minutes to allow the carpet and paint to soften. Third, carefully use a razor or pin to break up the dried paint and add more solution to soften stubborn chunks of paint. Fourth, blot the stain with a dry white towel and break up paint until stain is removed. If the stain fails to release itself from the carpet, the steam from a hand-held steamer or an iron may help to break up the paint.
